We Are Moving

(This is an archived post from our wordpress, originally posted June 1, 2019.)

As of May 24, I have submitted my dissertation, I Speak my Work unto the King: A Speech-Act Theory of Biblical Poetry, and will be defending it on August 9. Then Carrie, Wendell, and I will be saying fare thee well to Scotland and heading back to North America.

We are taking a leap of faith and moving to the area of Covington, Kentucky, without jobs lined up. Our hope is to get permission from either the bishop of Covington or the Bishop of Lexington for the Fellowship to establish our community in the Cumberland. So we will be trying to make connections in the area, work with the local dioceses and colleges, and learn to grow sustainable gardens in concert with the Berry Center.

In addition to all of these changes, Carrie and I have been studying liturgics and the theology of music. I am hoping to look at the implications of my work in Biblical Poetics for chant and prayer.

The Fellowship is also beginning work on our next issue of The Scholastic, and we are excited about the articles that we have in store for you. We would love to hear your feedback on our first issue, and any ideas for contributions that you might have.

We would appreciate your continued prayers and support as we move forward. It is both an exciting and scary time for our family as we step out of what has been a very secure and nurturing community for us without a clear safety net. But we are having more and more conversations with people who are interested in the Fellowship’s work and vision, and we are greatly encouraged about the future of Christian higher education.

In Christ, Matthew, Carrie, and Wendell.
